Our Land

Historically Southeastern Colorado has been the land of the Apache, Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Comanche, Kiowa and Ute people. These natives and their unknown ancestors have left evidence of their presence on the rock walls of the canyons along the Purgatoire and Apisapa Rivers. In 1820 the Santa Fe Trail opened up across this land.  Since the mid-19th Century this land has been the home of Hispanic and Anglo sheep and cattle Ranchers.

Now our land is threatened by an invasion by our own military. Fort Carson is perusing a proposal to expand the Piņon Canyon Maneuver Site to huge proportions. In order to do it they would have to take our land by force. They would have to use eminent domain to condemn our land and force the people from their homes.
