Pinon Canyon Art Project

Please lend your support to the Pinon Canyon Expansion Opposition Coalition, PCEOC, in its campaign to prevent the military from turning Southeastern Colorado into a huge, live-fire maneuver site.

The area being targeted by the Pentagon is one of the most beautiful and unique parts of Colorado. It includes spectacular prairie and canyon landscapes, historic and pre-historic sites, and a unique Colorado cowboy culture. (For more information go to www.pinoncanyon.com)

A Call to Artists:

Red Rocks, Sunrise                          Oil Painting by Doug Holdread

You are invited to help by collaborating with fellow artists to:

  • Take part in a series of art-outings scheduled for May through October- Artists will visit sites within the area being targeted for an expanded Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site to take photographs, and work on sketches and paintings of the landscapes and the people of the region.
  • Participate in a group exhibition to benefit the PCEOC in the Fall of 2008-  Artists will be asked to contribute a work of art for sale with the proceeds going to the coalition's efforts in opposition to the expansion.
  • Communicate the issue to the public through your art- Artists will be asked to allow their names and examples of their art to be used to publicize this important cause.

You will benefit:

  • By contributing to a worthy cause through your art.
  • By joining together with a community of artists who share a concern for the land and people of Southeastern Colorado.
  • By gaining access to unique landscapes on private and public lands within the region.
